Lots of activity on the air this weekend. Museum Ships On The Air had 89 different vessels on the ham bands this weekend. Lots of military, merchant, and other ships. Here are some of the ships I worked:
Tall Ship Elissa
USS North Carolina
USS New Jersey
USS Nautilus
USS Cod
When I lived in Cleveland, I was a member of the USS Cod Amateur Radio club. We had the WW2 Gato class submarine on the air many weekends over the summers. Mostly Bill, KA8VIT, hi, but others would come and "play radio" in the coolest clubhouse anywhere. Radio Ops on the Cod actually operate in the sub's radio room. On Field Day weekends, we set up our Emergency communications in the grassy yard, and when our shift to sleep came up, we slept in bunks onboard. Always a fantastic fun time. Lots of great memories.
Another special event that started Saturday and runs for 16 days is Lewis and Clark Trail on the Air commemorating the Lewis and Clark trail. The goal is to find and contact participating stations in each of the 16 states along the trail. I nabbed a couple of those too.
Add to these, the KY QSO Party and the usual POTA activations made for a busy weekend on the ham bands. Nice to hear all those hams!
